Human Performance Technology
(HPT) Institutes
|
There is a great deal of talk about aligning Human Resources, Quality, and Training Departments with business, and building performance-based organizations. We at the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) believe that is a good thing. After all, we have been quietly leading the way since 1962.
ISPI is an international association of professionals who are dedicated to improving individual and organizational performance through systematic, measurable, and reproducible means. Ten thousand ISPI and chapter members in some 40 countries utilize a performance improvement process that includes performance analysis, cause analysis, intervention selection and design, implementation, and evaluation. The intervention may involve training; it may not. Either way, each successful application results in positive changes to the competence, abilities, and performance of the workforce. This process, which ISPI refers to as Human Performance Technology (HPT), is taught during an ISPI Performance Improvement Institute.
HPT is governed by a set of underlying principles and the Standards of Performance Technology, which serve to differentiate it from other disciplines and to guide practitioners in its use. An Institute provides attendees with a unique opportunity to learn and practice the 10 Standards of Performance Technology, which include:
- Focus on Results
- Take a Systems View
- Add Value
- Utilize Partnerships
- Systematic Assessment of Need or Opportunity
- Systematic Cause Analysis
- Systematic Design
- Systematic Development
- Systematic Implementation
- Systematic Evaluation
An ISPI HPT Institute is a hands-on, interactive learning event. The knowledge gained is immediately applicable in the workplace and is designed to produce the highest return on investment for participating organizations.

Workplace examples and collaborative analyses of case studies pull participants into active problem solving, as they learn the foundations of performance improvement. The program demonstrates proven tools and techniques in use in the performance improvement arena today. Participants will apply the skills of performance consulting and the techniques introduced in this workshop to diagnose performance improvement opportunities and prescribe strategies and tactics to address them. Takeaways include models, best practices, resources and a network of colleagues with a broad array of expertise.
Performance Objective
Principles and Practices of Performance Improvement will teach you the Human
Performance Technology process and the application of performance consulting
skills and tools to analyze a workplace performance problem, present
solutions and evaluate your results.

"It's the best [workshop] I've been
to in my civilian career. As far as I am concerned, this is the workshop to
attend for anyone trying to get their arms around what performance
consulting is all about."
"The workshop was long on practical application and short on theory.
The knowledge, experience, and real-world examples [the faculty] provided
greatly enhanced the learning experience."
