Thursday, April 19 [ WT? ] WTA: Performance Partnering Workshop Dick Handshaw, Handshaw Inc. This skill-building workshop features participant role plays with lots of feedback. Participants will use eight tested principles for conducting proactive interviews as well as eight principles for conducting reframing meetings with clients. The goal of a reframing meeting is to help the client focus on results rather than activities and gain permission to gather more analysis data. Proactive consulting will position participants as a strategic partner rather than an order taker.
Participants will be able to: Engage clients in discussions about business goals and barriers to performance even when there is no immediate project or opportunity on the table. Engage the client in an open discussion about business needs and the performance required to support them. Observe and practice eight skills that will facilitate the proactive interview. Observe and practice eight skills that will facilitate the re-framing meeting. Identify opportunities to conduct further analysis of the performance needs in order to identify learning needs.

WTB: Plan and Facilitate Smarter, Collaborative Meetings Bob Wiele, OncSmartWorld and Michael Ferrabee, Canadian School of Public Service This skills development workshop helps participants learn a system for designing and facilitating collaborative meetings for all settings. This system delivered to WestJet, the highest ROI ever recorded in training in Canada. It teaches a universal common language for thinking together. Participants learn how to design and facilitate smarter meetings using a lean meeting process method to help people who think differently, get on to the same page and produce consistently great results together.
Participants will be able to: Acquire a sustainable methodology of 5 building blocks to reduce time spent in meetings, improve the quality of engagement, and improve meeting productivity. Plan and design collaborative meetings using a set of 12 disciplined lean meeting processes and customize meeting processes, using online tools, and planning skills. Facilitate 4 types of tasks in collaborative meetings, using specific strategies and structured experiences to 1) develop understanding of issues and people; 2) create option and alternatives, to challenges 3) make decisions, and 4) instill a spirit of positive initiative. Practice facilitation skills to enable meeting participants to do the same type of thinking and to bring wandering participants back on track. Use 5 team building and facilitation tools to improve team meeting work.

Friday, April 20 [ WF? ] WFA: Performance Improvement Consulting: Ideas, Models, and Tools Roger Chevalier, CPT, PhD, Improving Workplace Performance This workshop equips consultants with state-of-the-art information for improving individual and organizational performance by providing ideas, models, and tools necessary to systematically consult with clients. The workshop is based on three sessions selected as Encore presentations at past annual ISPI conferences and on Roger's award-winning book entitled, A Manager's Guide to Improving Workplace Performance. Participants will have the opportunity to use what they learned in a highly interactive skill practice. Participants will be able to: Use a structured performance consulting process. Identify performance shortfalls. Determine the underlying causes for these shortfalls. Select appropriate interventions to improve performance. Manage the change process and evaluate the results.
