BRIAN DESAUTELS, CPT
for President-Elect
Goal/Skills and QualificationsTo
provide accessibility to the abilities Brian brings to ISPI leadership, he has
chosen to demonstrate the alignment of his goals with his skills and
qualifications. He sets forth the following four broad goals for his office:
Collaborate and Re-invigorate ISPI at Universities. Strengthen ISPI
visibility on campuses to identify local university professors (and affiliated
students) to encourage research and build tomorrow's contributors. Brian's
experience includes:
- ISPI Board Director/Treasurer
- Contributing author, Handbook of
Human Performance Technology
- Academic instructor, graduate level
- Performance consultant (100-person agency to
2-person boutique)
Collaborate and Re-invigorate Research at ISPI.
The sharing of empirical data, gained through a scientific approach to research,
is our differentiator and we must support the collaborative effort required to
accomplish research that will impact businesses globally. Brian's
accomplishments include:
- Editor, HPT @ Work series
- Contributing author to books on
interventions, OD, and performance
- Pursuing new applications of HPT in broader
constituencies
Collaborate and Re-invigorate ISPI at Chapter
level. Support the dual role chapters play as ISPI portals. Better than we
can, chapters distribute the ISPI message to practitioners in the field through
meetings and targeted recruitment. And, chapters help ISPI hear about HPT work
occurring in local communities and bring that talent to the visible surface.
Brian's accomplishments include:
- Co-founder and two-term president of the
Seattle Chapter
- Member of the Year, Michigan Chapter
- North Central Regional Coordinator, NSPI
Collaborate and Re-invigorate our Distribution
Channels. Bolster website, journal, chapters, conferences, and others to
provide accessibility internationally to our best-kept secret (HPT) and ensure
vital and robust participation at the 2010 Global Conference on Workplace
Performance. Brian's accomplishments include:
- Conference Chair, ISPI Annual
Conference, Cincinnati
- Presenter: Annual, Fall, Europe, and
chapter sessions; pre-conference workshops; 2008 Master Series speaker
This is my vision: "Collaborative
Re-invigoration." We have hard work ahead of us. HPT is an applied science that
grew out of the work of behavioral scientists. If ISPI's core technology is
human performance, then we must draw a constituency comprised of those who
manage or influence performance, which necessarily broadens our legacy
constituency.
We must encourage deeper work on how to apply the science of HPT to those
functional areas within an organization responsible for building performance.
Collaboratively, we do this by re-invigorating our research efforts, our
university relationships, our chapters, and our methods of distributing our
great work back into the community. |

STEVEN J. KELLY, CPT
for Director, Internationally-Based
Skills and Qualifications
Steven Kelly, involved in performance improvement
efforts for 32 years, has applied his craft in both commercial and government
arenas (military, national, regional/state, municipal levels). Illustrative
clients include GM/Opel, World Bank, KPMG, Shell, Bechtel, USAID,
Kimberly-Clark, AIG, and the European Union.
In 1990, relocating his operational focus to Prague, Czechoslovakia, he has
applied HPT methods to diverse projects in 19 countries formerly under the
Soviet sphere of influence. He has traveled to over 60 countries in both
professional and personal pursuits.
Steven, an ISPI member during the 1980s, rejoined the Society actively in the
mid-1990s; and under the auspices of his firm, KNO, is currently an ISPI Patron
Sponsor. A Board member of ISPI Europe (Treasurer) since 2004, Steven chaired
the 2006 European conference in Prague. He has presented at numerous
professional conferences over the years and has co-authored several articles in
the Performance Improvement journal.
Steven is the founding partner of KNO Worldwide, with offices in Prague and
Bratislava. His academic credentials include an AA in business, BS in political
science, MA in management/human relations, and completed coursework for a PhD in
international relations. He is a CPT since 2002.
Goals
ISPI is at a crossroads of opportunity and risk.
PI and HPT concepts have been introduced outside of North America often with so
much emphasis on "results" that the systemic approach for valued change has been
diluted. In cultures with a strong sense of a "multiple bottom-line" this has
often resulted in a resistance to performance improvement as another
"checklist" effort, without consideration of local knowledge and approaches. We
can change this by broadening the audience for our message, while maintaining
our own professional improvement, and maintaining the rigor of our approach.
I will put my primary energies toward:
- the criticality of a timely and successful
transition between executive directors, ensuring financial and operational
stability
- crafting more active responses to increasing
market demands for HPT and ISPI chapter support in Asia, Europe, Latin
America, and Africa
My focus will be on working cooperatively with
the Board, committee structures, and active task forces to further progress on
ISPI's three approved goals and associated objectives. These goals support
ISPI's global role as the leading force for organizational health and success
through systemic change, building respect and proficiency of HPT practitioners,
and maintaining sound operational and valued Society governance. |

BELIA NEL, CPT
for Director, Internationally-Based
Skills and QualificationsBelia is
an active member of ISPI and has made it her ambition to spread the message,
vision, and philosophies of ISPI locally in South and Southern Africa. She has

training professionals. The latter part of her career specifically focused on
teaching the HPT methodology through HPT Institutes to corporations in South
Africa and facilitating the vision of ISPI by sharing knowledge and providing
assistance from a performance improvement perspective.
Belia has published various articles and chapters in academic textbooks on the
benefits and impact of HPT and uses this communication vehicle to continuously
promote ISPI as an international body of performance improvement professionals.
She has also established a presence for ISPI in South Africa and has organized
two ISPI conferences, including speakers from ISPI and performance improvement
stable. She is a recent recipient of a Leadership award from ISPI and has served

African continent.
Goals
I support ISPI's strategy to continuously expand
its message, vision, and professionalism vigorously, and it is my goal to ensure
that ISPI's strategy gets communicated and activated across all continents and
countries, both in the developed and developing world.

Society through creating a value proposition that would move people to
action

changing world of work

products company and a municipal government. Holds a BA in psychology and an
MBA. Earned Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) and Project Management
Professional (PMP) certifications.

Area United Way to develop Chapter Leadership Workshop, including sessions
on chapter board development and volunteer recruiting and retention. Served
local ISPI chapter as president and Board member, during which time chapter
membership grew 36%.
Goals
- One Society: We should strengthen the
natural synergy between our chapters and our Society. Healthy chapters provide
for professional knowledge and skill transfer, relationship building, and
leadership development for our Society. In alignment with the current Board's
initiative to have a strong, consistent ISPI brand, the Society should offer
chapters program enhancement, leadership development, and marketing support
materials, as well as full-time professional support. Chapters must contribute
by providing HPT development programming consistent with the best thinking
available, encouraging active membership in the "international" Society, and
promoting HPT and the CPT program locally.
- Membership growth: Membership is a key
business indicator of ISPI's health and success. We must actively encourage
growth in the number of chapters and in our membership. We must promote the
natural progression of membership from chapters to the Society. We should
consider new forms of membership to reduce barriers to participation and better
meet the needs of the marketplace. We must improve member retention by applying
well-established best practices. We must develop partnerships with new
organizations in varied fields and places in the world where the successes of
people and organizations are important. We must do all this while staying true
to one of the core values and strengths of this Society: this is our
"professional family--our professional home."

We must market our value in ways that resonate with both practitioners and

the Society into the future. ISPI is not the only game in town, and we must
take proactive steps to ensure we are the most valued.
- Sharing the Passion: Passion is a
critical ingredient in the secret sauce of any high-performing organization.
