Implementation: Sustaining Initiatives

Judith A. Hale, CPT, PhD

Hale PhotoThis workshop goes beyond the launch and roll out of an initiative. It is about how to increase the odds of new behaviors, technology, standards, values, and more to produce the desired results because they are fully adopted by the organization. Organizations invest millions of dollars on initiatives intended to improve productivity; unfortunately, after the initial launch there is little evidence of change. The promise of improvement is not fulfilled.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Set up an oversight committee to manage the politics and bureaucracy of the organization.
  • Measure the rate of adoption of new behaviors and interim results.
  • Communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Anticipate and be prepared to overcome barriers like the loss of a sponsor.
  • Shift ownership to the line organization.

You will have the opportunity to practice using one of two cases, or you can apply the guidelines to your own project.

Intended Audience

This workshop is for you if you:

  • Are responsible for creating training in support of new initiatives.
  • Design and develop initiatives at the request of senior management only to see them later abandoned by senior management.
  • Support other departments' creation and launch of major initiatives.
  • Are tired of seeing dollars wasted because the line organization abdicates responsibility for adopting new behaviors, performance standards, technology, and the like.
