See Design Thinking In Action:
Before the conference is even kicked off, attendees will have the opportunity to attend one of several
"pre-conference field trips" to learn and observe how organizations are applying performance
improvement principles and practices to drive innovation and transformation.
Practice what you've Learned!
After the field trips conclude, Symposium attendees will have three options to tailor their
professional development and networking experience.
- Organizational Teams: Form a team from your organization, or partner with a client and send
a group to the Innovation Symposium to work on a real-time problem or opportunity you are
currently exploring in your workplace or with a customer. You will learn core principles and
techniques of Design Thinking and will be afforded time, space, and mentoring to use your new
knowledge and skills onsite at the symposium.
- Community Service Teams: Several local non-profit and small businesses will participate in the
symposium as part of ISPI’s Community Service Program. If you would like to collaborate on a
real-time issue for one of these community organizations, we will partner you with like-minded
attendees to provide pro bono consulting while simultaneously developing your Design Thinking
- Professional Development Sessions: If you are not participating in a team, do not fret. Similar
to a traditional conference, the two days will also be filled with numerous sessions focused on
topics such as Design Thinking, performance improvement, learning and development, change
management, leadership, and technology. Anyone attending will find something new, interesting,
and engaging to take back to their workplace and immediately begin using.
We have kept the cost down to encourage maximum participation and full engagement of our
attendees. The gracious donation by ODU to allow us to use their new state of the art facilities is a
huge contributor to the low cost of the symposium. While we will not have all the food and beverage
amenities typically seen at large conference, our central location at ODU affords many nearby
lodging, dining, and entertainment options.
